The Company

Professional Independents is a cooperative of highly skilled independent consultants dedicated to providing first-rate business and technical consulting.  Our members have joined this unique group to gain the collective benefits of a corporation while retaining the autonomous control over their career.   Pro Independents is then able to match this specialized talent with our clients’ needs, allowing them to gain access to specialist resources that are not only difficult to find, but too expensive to retain permanently.  Our clients can then augment their teams as needed with professional interim resources, or build an entire project team, without having the hassles of recruiting, training, and managing permanent employees.

Professional Independents was formed as a result of the several independent consultants’ experiences in the IT Industry within the United States and overseas in an attempt to try and address three problems in the industry:

  • Clients are paying extremely high rates for both skilled and unskilled resources, not knowing the difference;
  • Consultants who do the work are only receiving a small percentage of what the client pays, especially in the situation of an international consultant;
  • Consultants have little power over negotiating rates, locations or project types

As a consequence, the client does not always get the best value for their money; and the consultants are neither optimally utilized or nor adequately compensated, and many times unhappy with the outcome.

The solution came to light when the founders separated out the common denominator – highly skilled business and technical consultants.  A company was then created to find and recruit this talent, but not for a traditional consulting firm with the same old problems.  The corporation was created to focus on creating an environment that allowed highly skilled and experienced professionals to control their own career path, including billing rates, project types and clients.  If a consultant is negotiating the terms of the contract, how can they be dissatisfied with the results?  The client can then be assured that they are selecting from a pool of highly experienced consultants, negotiating directly with the source. 

How do we do this? 

Rather than using sales people to recruit consultants and find contracts, the company instead uses its knowledge of the industry and alliances with many independent consultants to find new staff and new positions. The benefits of this are:
  • Reduced overhead as no dedicated sales staff are required
  • The company understands exactly what skills the customer desires and matches that with consultants who are interested and qualified for that particular role
  • All consultants are extremely capable – In that Professional Independents is a network of experienced professionals, membership is only extended if the skills will enhance the collective group, not detract from it

By keeping company overhead is low, the benefit is shared between the customer and the consultant. The customer obtains a more highly skilled resource at a lower rate, and the consultant receives a higher portion of that billing rate, thereby creating a win/win situation.
